The city of Porto

Known in Portugal as the capital of the north, Porto is a fascinating city with lots of unknown treasures to discover. Built on the right bank of the Douro river it is a city where the winding, hilly narrow streets of the old town complement the wide, modern avenues which spread out to the suburbs.

Unmissable sights include the defining landmark of the Porto Catheral, that resembles a grand fortress overlooking the whole city. And the “riverbank quarter” of the city where visitors are free to explore the winding alleys that make up the historic heart of the city. This is also the liveliest place to head for in the evenings.

The left bank of the river sits Vila Nova de Gaia, home to all the famous Port wine companies including Taylors, Dows and Offleys. Connections available to Massarelos, Vila Nova de Gaia, Valongo, and Matosinhos.
