Who doesn’t love a Greek Island? When it comes to summer getaways, there are few settings as idyllic or sought after by holidaymakers. Whether you’re looking for something relaxed and simple, or something a bit more off-the-beaten-track, Corfu will have exactly what you need.
Discover Sidari
Sidari is among the top spots to visit on the island for a number of reasons, perhaps chief among them being the tremendous beach. It’s seriously one of the best stretches of sand anywhere in the Mediterranean, and it’s one of those places even postcards can’t really do justice.
But it’s not just about the beautiful beaches; the region also boasts a selection of great natural landscapes to keep you occupied on hikes and walks, as well as great nightlife and quality restaurants to keep your evenings well stocked with excitement. If you’re only there for a short space of time, I’ve put together an ideal itinerary for a three-day trip to make sure you get the most out of seductive Sidari.
Day 1
Your first day in sunny Sidari will be a great one and the first stop has to be the Canal d’Amor. It’s not actually a canal, but a beach and rock formation, which will beguile you with its natural beauty. Rarely do you get the opportunity to spend time relaxing on a sunlounger with such a spectacular backdrop!
The adventurous among you can also enjoy watersports, like snorkelling, and revel in the romantic nature of the setting that gives it its name. It’s not huge, but it is peaceful, and the gorgeous greeny-blue water laid out in front of you will draw you into its charm.
Day 2
Waterparks are not just for kids! Whether or not you’re travelling with children, the Sidari Waterpark has to be on your list. One of the nicest waterparks in Greece, and among the top sights in Corfu, it’s also home to a hotel that means the facilities are free for guests. For those staying elsewhere though, it’s still very affordable and well worth the ticket price.
Day 3
If you haven’t been scuba diving by now then today is the day. The water in Sidari is a perfect colour and clarity to see a huge range of the local marine life that lives under the waves. Take your pick from the various companies offering scuba and other watersports, then head out and enjoy the silent tranquillity as you observe life at the bottom of the sea.
For those looking for a more extreme activity, why not try paragliding or water-skiing? Both are available around the seafront at Sidari Beach; those incredible rock formations never looked so good as from the air or a sea-going vantage!
Where to Stay
The choices you have when it comes to accommodation are really quite brilliant here in Corfu, and the following three get the nod from me.
Palma Sidari provides a colourful but relaxed setting for a weekend getaway (or longer!). Along with the great facilities, undoubtedly the best thing about Palma Sidari is its proximity to the beach – it puts you seconds away from the sand.
Del Mare Beach Hotel sits close to the Canal d’Amor and is adorned in classic Greek white and blue. This Instagram worthy hotel has an impressive range of amenities including attractive, well-appointed rooms and a fine bar and restaurant onsite.
Central Hotel Sidari is modern, clean and sleek, with access to an onsite pool and in sight of the beach. This place is a smart choice for those who like whiling away an afternoon on their balcony.
How to Get There
You can fly direct to Corfu Airport from a number of UK cities, including London, Bristol and Belfast. A range of budget and higher end carriers can get you there in just over three hours. It’s well worth booking an airport transfer for your arrival as there’s nothing more relaxing than knowing you have your ground transport waiting. Corfu Airport to Sidari is a drive of about 40 minutes, and the peace of mind knowing you don’t have to queue for a taxi upon landing is worth every penny.
If you want a reliable airport transfer, but don’t know exactly what you should book, then check out the below section for more details.
Types of Transfer
There are a number of different types of Corfu Airport transfer, but each of them serves a different purpose and is right for a different clientele. Check out these four to see what is right for you.
Taxi:
A pre-booked taxi provides simplicity and comfort without any hassles. It’s a great, easy way to reach Sidari from Corfu Airport. Transfer time is short and there is no waiting around for your ride.
Shuttle Bus:
An inexpensive and convenient option, the Shuttle Bus is perfect for larger groups looking to economise on the journey, or travellers looking to keep costs down.
Private Transfer:
For the ultimate in luxury travel, opt for a private transfer. Corfu Airport to Sidari never looked so good! It’s similar to a taxi in terms of comfort, reliability, and door-to-door service, but with a more refined edge that comes from having personalised touches.
Minibus Transfer:
Finally, the humble minibus provides a budget option and is perfect for those who want to make friends or meet new people on their travels.
Choosing the Right Transfer
Depending on cost and convenience factors, the above four transfers will all have different people to whom they appeal.
Cost: If cost is your major concern, then one of the larger vehicle options is probably best. The minibus and the shuttle allow you to split the cost of the journey with other people, or economise the price if travelling together. The pre-booked taxi is a mid-priced option, and the private transfer is obviously the most expensive.
Convenience: Although the most expensive, the private transfer has the benefit of being the most convenient. You’ll be met right at arrivals by a friendly, professional driver, and your journey will be comfortable and easy. Just what you need when getting off a three hour flight. But if you like a bit of an adventure and meeting new people, you might be happy to forgo the convenience and save money on a shared shuttle.
