Limassol is a great place for a classic family holiday, with beautiful sandy beaches, a bustling centre and sunny skies. Though you might be ready for a week or two in the Cyprian sun doing nothing, you can bet that your children will be bored after just a few days spent splashing in the sea. Well, don’t worry Limassol has plenty more to offer. This post will take you through some of the best family-friendly activities you can do in and around the town to keep the kids happy from dawn to dusk.
Want to introduce your kids to a little Cypriot culture? Check out this post on the fascinating history of Limassol, think Romans, castles and ancient civilisations.
Fasouri Watermania Waterpark
You can’t go wrong with a brilliant waterpark and FasouriWatermania Waterpark is one of the best. FasouriWatermania is the largest waterpark in Cyprus and prides itself on safety and fun. Ideal for children of all ages, the waterpark has attractions for toddlers and adults alike.
For Smaller Children
The Kiddies Pool is specially designed for toddlers up to the age of three, though older siblings are welcome. It is a little tucked away with a calmer atmosphere than some of the more extreme attractions. There is shallow water, gentle sprinklers and more. The Baby Bungee Swings are also great for little ones, they can sit comfortably in the shade and dangle their legs into the cool water.
For Bigger Children
The Lazy River is fun for all the family (rafts can carry up to ten people) though confident swimmers above the age of eight can cruise alone. This is an oasis of calm, a gentle 400-metre route lined with native plants. The Juice Factory Interactive Centre is designed especially for families with a range of cool and imaginative structures to climb up, slide down and play on.
Other great activities are:
- Paddle Boats
- Wave Pool
- Body Slides (5 years and up)
- Wet Bubble
Limassol Zoo makes an ideal day out if the kids need a break from swimming. All sorts of animals can be found here, and it is really good value for money. As the zoo is not too big, you won’t feel overwhelmed, however, it is a good opportunity for the children to learn a little more about the animal kingdom. Snacks and drinks are available from the café.
The zoo is very well set up for children with accessible information available about each species. There are some impressive animals here, such as the hippo, and a range of birds and mammals sure to delight. Make sure to catch a few feedings if you can, expert animal carers will give a short talk about the animals before each feeding.
Top Tip: When the children are fed up with walking around take them to the playground to let off a bit of steam.
There are more attractions in Limassol than I can mention in this post, however, I am sneaking in a few more highlights. These child-friendly attractions are ideal for children of all ages and help to engage their imaginations and tire them out.
- Galactica: A fun-fair-like entertainment venue with rides, video games, bowling and more.
- Masterland: A child-sized replica of a city where children can take on professions, use the Masterland currency, learn new skills and have a lot of fun.
- Cyprus Land: A medieval experience for history-lovers, Cyprus Land offers archery, pottery classes, jousting and a medieval playground.
Hopefully, you’ll be able to enjoy a quiet glass of wine in the evenings once the kids are fast asleep.
Where to Stay
Mediterranean Beach Hotel – This beautiful beachfront hotel is ideal for families with easy access to the sands as well as a large outdoor pool. The hotel has a great kids club and a shallow pool just for little ones. Older children will enjoy the tennis court and table tennis and pool tables.
Tycoon Apartments – This airy apartment is ten minutes’ walk from the beach with access to a shared pool and garden, as well as a bar for mum and dad. A small kitchenette makes family breakfasts a doddle and, best of all, the FasouriWatermania Waterpark is just a short drive away.
How to Get There
Fly from the UK to Larnaca International Airport then get a pre-booked transfer to Limassol. There are over seventy flights a week from London to Larnaca International and some great deals to be had. The flight takes about four and a half hours so make sure you have plenty of plane activities ready to keep the little ones busy.
I would recommend pre-booking a Shuttle Direct transfer from the airport to Limassol to make sure you have a stress-free transfer. The trip takes about an hour from the airport. Book a private taxi for you and the kids for a door to door service with a smile.
