Dive into Dublin on a Family-Friendly Adventure

Dive into Dublin on a Family-Friendly Adventure

If you’re looking to enjoy a getaway with the kids but don’t want the hassle of travelling hundreds of miles across the globe, why not organise a family holiday to Dublin? Though Ireland is well-known for its nightlife and iconic drinks, this destination is also a fantastic spot for families with young kids.

Whether they’re animal mad, chocolate crazy or love exploring fascinating museums, this cultural hotspot is sure to thrill any young traveller. Find out about some of the best spots that the whole family can explore and you’ll be booking your getaway before you know it.

The Ark

Those looking for an immersive cultural experience will love spending a day at this exhibition space. The Ark often hosts workshops for the youngsters, and they can watch or get involved in plenty of activities ranging from theatre performances to music and dance classes. It’s a great day out for kids who have a wild imagination or just want to try something new.

The Chocolate Warehouse

The ideal attraction for sweet-toothed kids (and adults). This warehouse allows guests to learn all about the history of chocolate, from the origins of the cocoa bean to modern manufacturing processes. Visitors can also enjoy workshops, seasonal events and, of course, a few tasty treats along the way.

Dublin Zoo

This attraction thrills visitors of all ages, and is home to a range of stunning natural habitats including gardens and lakes. Encounter animals from across the globe while wandering around the zoo before heading to the Discovery and Learning Centre to really enhance your knowledge by taking part in some workshops.

Children’s Museum

Fill one of your days in Dublin with learning, fun and adventure at Imaginosity, the city’s museum that was built for children (most appropriate for those under 10). There are plenty of activities on offer and a number of exciting exhibit spaces. Enjoy the library, puppet room, theatre, art studio and much more – just remember to book in advance if you want to take part in special workshops.

The Phoenix Park

If you want to spend a day of your holiday doing something a little different, I can highly recommend Viking Splash Tours. Experience a tour through the city on land and water, but all from the comforts of one seat – on a WWII amphibious vehicle! See the most popular sites of Dublin, listen to the entertaining commentary and enjoy the excursion’s unique Viking twist. There’s no experience quite like this.

Where to Stay

The Artane Self Catering – Spend quality time with your loved ones and opt for an apartment. This home-away-from-home has everything you’ll need, including a well-equipped kitchen, private garden and a great location just a few miles from the city centre. Stylish, homely and spacious, you’ll never want to leave the Artane!

Ballsbridge Hotel – This hotel is the perfect option for those looking to explore the city as it’s just a few minutes from the main railway connections. The rooms have great modern facilities, and you’ll feel like real VIPs when enjoying the dining facilities. Sample traditional Irish cuisine as well as some more familiar English favourites in case the kids are picky.

How to Get There

The best way to reach the bustling city is to catch a flight from London. It takes less than 90 minutes to reach Dublin Airport (DUB), so this holiday really is ideal for young children. Simply put a film on at the start of the journey and you’ll be there before you know it. From there, a transfer to the city centre takes just five minutes, so your best bet is pre-booking a private shuttle to avoid public transport queues.

I can recommend Shuttle Direct’s services, particularly if you’re travelling with children. Make your journey as hassle free as possible and reach the main attractions within minutes of your plane landing.

Overview

  • UK to DUB Flight Time: 1 hours 15 minutes
  • DUB to Dublin City Centre Distance: 13 kilometres
