A Holiday of Two Halves in Magaluf

If you’ve heard of Magaluf, on the western coast of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca, chances are it’s been in the context of being a lively party town with vibrant nightlife, gorgeous beaches, and plenty of good food. That’s absolutely the truth, and there’s no doubt it’s a popular place for fun-and-sun lovers to take a short break to let their hair down. But if you’re the type of person who’s not shy of a good time, but also wants a chance to relax and pass the time doing something that doesn’t result in a hangover,  Magaluf could be your next favourite place.

Make the Most of Magaluf

Magaluf’s well-earned reputation as the Mallorcan capital of good times is borne out by the sheer volume of places to drink and dance the night away, but there are also plenty of ways to relax, explore at a leisurely pace, and get off the beaten track to enjoy some of the island’s lesser known gems. With a host of quality beachfront accommodation right in the heart of the town, it’s the perfect place to come for a short break that you can make the very most of. Because, if you know where to look, Magaluf really can deliver a holiday of two halves.

Relax and Explore in the Day

It doesn’t matter if you’ve got two days, three days, or a week, there’s plenty to keep you occupied in and around Magaluf during the day that doesn’t involve downing cocktails for breakfast. Although, no judgement if that’s your thing…

Shopping: While the town isn’t huge, it punches above its weight when it comes to shopping. For a very relaxed, enjoyable place to window shop or discover some fantastic local crafts to take home, the Playa de Magaluf is lined with small independent shops and quirky boutiques – as well as the usual tourist tatt suspects. For something a bit more upmarket, the two shopping centres – Momentum Plaza and Centro la Vila – have a host of branded international chains to browse and buy.

The Beach: Well, of course… Magaluf’s main beach is a wide, sandy stretch that can get pretty crowded at peak times, but it’s a great place to stretch out on a deck chair and catch some of that famous Mediterranean sun. If you want something a little quieter, nearby Cala Falco is only about 10 minutes away from the resort. It’s certainly no secret, but because there are no water sports and very few facilities (just one bar, which is only sporadically open), this small cove has a lovely tranquil vibe, which is in stark contrast to Magaluf Beach. Pack a picnic, a hat and some sun cream and enjoy a low-key escape.

Day trip to the mountains: Just 10 minutes inland from Magaluf by car, the majestic Serra de Tramuntana mountain range delivers a host of walking, hiking and cycling opportunities to get you active and soak up the spectacular scenery. This lush UNESCO protected site actually comprises almost a third of the island’s landscape, so whether you’re looking for a short invigorating walk or a longer hike, there are plenty of well-marked tracks and trails to discover. As always, never set off anywhere without a map and plenty of water.

A boat to Sa Porrassa: About 400m off the coastline, “Ille de Sa Porrassa” is a small uninhabited island that’s fairly easily reached by paddle board, small boat or even under your own steam if you’re a strong swimmer. While there’s not a lot to do when you’re there, that’s the point! Swim, snorkel, stroll along the pristine beaches, or keep an eye out for the local wildlife – in particular the black lizard for which the island is named.

Party at Night

With a relaxing day under your belt, as the sun sinks below the horizon in Magaluf it’s time to party! And, party you will in a host of bars and nightclubs all eager to attract you with the promise of cheap drinks, pumping music and good times. There are, at last count, more than 50 venues large and small to choose from. So take a deep breath and dive in.

Punta Bellena Strip: Also known as “Magaluf Strip” this is the main place to party, just a short distance from the beach and lined with lots of lively clubs and bars to dip in and out of. Some of the better known ones if you’re looking to glam up and dance ‘til dawn are BCM Planet Dance, Boomerang Club, and Tokio Joe’s. If you like things a bit more casual, there are plenty of sports bars and pubs where you can watch a few games, sing karaoke, play pool and enjoy a few drinks. Some of the most popular ones are Coco Bongo, Alex’s Lounge, the Red Lion and Jokers.

Beach bars: Turn up the heat and the volume at one of Magaluf’s famous beach bars, but be prepared for crowds, free-flowing cocktails, and a highly contagious wet and wild atmosphere!

Nikki Beach Mallorca boasts a reputation as one of the best and most popular clubs in Europe, so you know you’re in for a treat! World class DJs, a luxury setting, and truly magical scenery make this place a must-visit for clubbing aficionados when in Magaluf. Other places to check out on the beachfront include Oceans Beach Club and Island Beach Club – both of which offer a rotating line-up of international DJs, pool parties, and themed events.

By day and by night Magaluf has so much to offer and what’s covered above is just to whet your appetite. Nightlife, restaurants, bars, shopping, hiking, cycling, swimming and a host of beach sports – have we missed anything? Ah yes – the ultimate in rest and relaxation… hola Magaluf!
