Shiver Me Timbers! Family Fun for Little Pirates at Santa Ponsa

Shiver Me Timbers! Family Fun for Little Pirates at Santa Ponsa

Any parents with little tykes who have great pirate fantasies best head off to the sunny resort of Santa Ponsa in Mallorca. There is plenty of pirate-themed fun to be had at this unforgettable family holiday destination!

Santa Ponsa is also a warm, beautiful and welcoming resort town with plenty more available to keep both adults and their kids happy and engaged on their family vacation.

Looking for more activities in the area? Check out our guide for more fun in Santa Ponsa here.

Here are a few ideas for some swashbuckling fun and adventure for the little ones, which you will even find yourself enjoying too.

Pirates Village

Pirates Village is an all-inclusive hotel like no other. This pirate-themed wonderland will make your young buccaneers feel like they are sailing the seven seas, all whilst staying in a comfortable accommodation with friendly staff on hand to entertain the kids and help in any way they can.

The hotel features an incredible outdoor pool area with fortresses, caves and waterfalls, as well as weekly pirate shows complete with fireworks and sword-fights – even Mum and Dad are sure to find these thrilling! The hotel puts on kids clubs for times when you want a little peace and quiet, but there are plenty of facilities for the whole family to enjoy together (unsurprisingly, the theme carries on with these too!). This includes a buffet restaurant and pool bar.

The spacious rooms are big enough for the whole family and provide everything you need for a relaxing stay, plus they too have a pirate theme that the children are sure to enjoy.

Those who have stayed at Pirates Village have commented on how much their kids enjoyed their stay and how the Animation Team really make an effort to keep them entertained. Others have stated how large and clean the rooms are, as well as the convenient location just 400m from the beach and 50m from the nearby bars, shops and restaurants. Although it is all-inclusive, it is nice being able to get out and explore the surrounding area (and enter the real world for a while!).

Dragonera Island

Of course no piratical vacation is complete without taking to the seas and sailing to an island, and where better than somewhere called Dragonera? This deserted island off the west coast of Mallorca is famed for being a place of refuge for infamous pirates like Barbarossa and Dragut – it was even used as a base for pirates when attacking the coast of Mallorca, so your brood will certainly enjoy learning about real life pirates. A number of companies run full-day excursions from the harbour of Santa Ponsa.

On the trip out, you are treated to lovely views of the coast and can stop off for snorkelling or paddling in the water where you will get to see all kinds of colourful marine life. Lunch is also included in the cost of the excursion. Upon arrival, you can explore the island however you wish – I recommend that fascinating museum where you can learn more about its usage a pirate base, but simply walking around and lizard spotting is a fun activity too. On your way back, the boat stops off at a stunning cove where you can either snorkel or bathe.

The boat leaves Santa Ponsa at 10.30am and the excursion takes around 5 hours.

Pirate’s Adventure Show

If your pint-sized privateers are craving more pirate-themed fun (which they almost certainly will be), the Pirate’s Adventure Show is a dazzling acrobatic showcase that will leave you breathless. The show will whisk you away to a time where pirates ruled the seas in a combination of comedy, drama, acrobatics, gymnastics, dancing and swashbuckling fun!

During the show you are treated to a buccaneer’s feast with and unlimited Coca-Cola for the kids, whilst mum and dad can enjoy unlimited beer or sangria – perfect! It is just a 7-minute drive from the hotel, but you will want to arrange transportation if you plan on taking advantage of the unlimited alcohol.

How to Get There

Flying may not be as piratical as sailing the seas, but it is a lot quicker and easier! The flight from London into Palma Mallorca (PMI) takes just 2 hours and there are plenty of affordable options from airlines such as easyJet, Monarch and Ryanair.

If you pre-book a Shuttle Direct transfer, you do not have to worry about catching a cab or using public transportation and a driver will be waiting for you at the airport when you arrive. The drive to Santa Ponsa takes just 30 minutes.
