The main pull of delightful Callao Salvaje is that it still sits under the radar compared to some of its Canarian counterparts. Once a thriving fishing village, the tourist industry has now moved in and taken hold. Despite the influx of hotels and resorts, though, the village retains its charm and, thanks to the emphasis on luxury, much of the development has been tastefully done.
For families with a more adventurous spirit, Tenerife is a fabulous island to visit and Callao Salvaje is a wonderful spot to explore. There is much to do here and plenty to see too. Here we highlight some of the great family activities to look out for.
Callao Salvaje’s Top Five Family Fun Activities
Regarded as the best zoo in the Canaries, this place is definitely worth a visit. I would suggest booking onto one of the Discovery Tours, as this gives the best insight into all that happens at the zoo. Not only do you get a real behind the scenes look, but the kids will be regaled with fun facts, secrets of the animal kingdom and lots more.
Top Tip: Upgrade to the Premium Tour and you can enjoy a three course lunch at the Patio del Loro Grill, as well as reserved seats in the shows.
Imagine heading out into the startling blue Tenerife waters on a family kayak expedition. Sounds like fun? Then why not make it happen and book onto one of the many tours available? Some tours include the chance to snorkel with turtles and get up close to the local dolphin population. Most excursions take around three hours but I guarantee that these will be among the best three hours of your holiday.
Adrenaline Fuelled Jet Ski Action
The waters around Callao Salvaje are perfect for exploring on a jet ski. Not only is this mode of transport more than a little exciting, it is a great way to see lots of sea life along the way. You can take a jet ski with a double seat so that you don’t have to worry about the kids handling one on their own. This is a real family bonding experience.
Siam Water Park
The kids will have a blast when you take them to this thrilling paradise made up of wave pools, slides and a water castle. You might even get the chance to relax a bit while the youngsters tear around and burn off all of that holiday excitement and energy. It is easy to spend a full day here.
If you are a family that likes to explore their local area when they are away on holiday, then a trip to Mount Teide is a good one for you. There are several hiking options, or you could even choose to take the cable car that offers spectacular views without any effort required. If you are a family that would prefer the hiking option, there are lots of options for treks here.
Hopefully you are now more than a little inspired to visit Callao Salvaje in Tenerife. There is so much here for families to get involved with here; you might find a week just isn’t enough.
Where to Stay
Villa Paradise – A beautiful villa with its own private swimming pool, this is ideal if you are a family that likes their own space. The three bedrooms are spacious and well appointed, while the exterior boasts a mature garden and a lovely barbeque area. With all the mod cons available, such a washing machine, dishwasher and free Wi-Fi, this villa is comfortable, convenient and perfect for families.
Paraiso Villas – Quiet and peaceful, these apartments each offer a lovely terrace, surrounded by verdant gardens. The apartment with a pool view is the ideal choice for a family. Well equipped for self catering, the accommodation is comfortable and conveniently located.
Feel-Good-Oasis – This modern and luxuriously decorated apartment comes highly recommended. Everything in the place looks new (and indeed was new last year) and the 55” Smart TV will go down a storm with teenagers. I appreciated the additional beach towels and the fact that the pool is heated to 25℃, while the kids loved the unlimited fibre broadband. All in all this is an excellent choice for families who are looking for comfort in abundance on their holidays.
