Find Romance With a Few Lazy Days in Playa Blanca

With its endless miles of gorgeous beaches, tranquil laid back vibe, fabulous food, and an abundance of luxury accommodation, it’s no secret that the Canary island of Lanzarote hits all the right romantic notes. It’s become popular with couples looking for the ultimate getaway, even if it’s just a few snatched days in between the hectic schedule of real life. From the UK you can leave home, fly to Lanzarote, and be laid out like a lizard under the Spanish sun sipping cocktails with your love within about five hours. Once you’ve come back down to Earth, there’s plenty to keep couples occupied, if you can drag yourself away from the pool…

Find the Romance in Playa Blanca

Some might say there’s no need to look far for romance when you’re staying on a Spanish island surrounded by sun, sea, sand and luxury accommodation (even in the winter months). But if you’re looking to treat your other half to a holiday to remember, it pays to add a little extra spice to your itinerary. And the best thing is, it’s all there just waiting at your fingertips.

Views Made for Lovers

If your eyes are open, chances are you’re looking at a stunning view in Playa Blanca – after all, you’re on an island. But a couple of insider tips will ensure that you can up the romance quotient to the max.

There’s arguably nothing that inspires romance more than a spectacular sunset (except perhaps a sunrise, but who needs to get up early on a holiday!?). Ask any local and they’ll tell you unequivocally that the most beautiful place to take in one of Lanzarote’s sunsets is the small village of Femés, a short drive from the resort. The terrace known as the “Balcón de Femes” offers jaw-dropping views over the coast and back to Playa Blanca, and at sunset it’s nothing short of mesmerising. After you’ve had your fill of those famous painted skies you can dine at one of the charming local restaurants before heading back.

Another fabulous view can be gleaned from ascending the heights of Montãna Roja (an ancient volcano). It only takes around 30 minutes to hike to the top of the crater but you’ll need at least two hours to really soak up the experience. You can take your time to walk around the perimeter of the crater taking in magnificent views over Playa Blanca and all the way over to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. Take a picnic with you and really savour this incredible excursion.

Beaches Perfect for Couples

If you’re on a quiet romantic break you probably don’t want to spend too much time on a beach with lots of children and noisy holidaymakers playing ball games. For a quieter and more intimate experience, the so-called Papagayo Beaches are popular with couples looking to get away from it all. Known for their relative seclusion and general ambience of tranquility, these five beaches certainly score high on the picturesque scale.

Comprising the Playas Mujeres, del Pozo, de la Cera, Caleta del Congrio, and Puerto Muelas (as well as Playa Papagayos itself), these gorgeous beaches are set in a protected natural area that really is as unspoilt as it promises. As with anything worthwhile, you’ll have to put in a little more effort to access them (some require you to navigate steep steps or paths), but the romantic rewards are well worth it. Perfect and pristine, a couple do have small bars or restaurants, but they are rarely crowded. Ideal for a glass of wine after a swim in the warm waters.

Activities to Keep Things Hot

There are plenty of excursions around the island to keep you busy, but here are a couple of activities that are guaranteed to please a cosy couple.

The site known as “Jameos del Agua” comprises a network of underground volcanic caves with a tunnel modified by the famous artist Cesar Manrique – making it completely unique. You can wander together and explore this fascinating landmark, then surprise your love with a candlelit dinner inside the cave restaurant!

Wine is an embedded part of Lanzarote’s culture, so taking a day or half-day tour of a local winery is a very enjoyable way to create some memories together. There are vineyards located all over the island and multiple tour operators offer itineraries. You’ll be able to learn the history of wine making on the island, visit some of the best cellars and, of course, do the all-important tastings.

If you think you and your loved one deserve a short, sweet, sunny getaway, you really couldn’t do better than the romantic resort of Playa Blanca. Book a flight, pack your bags and say, “long live love” on Lanzarote!
