There’s arguably nothing that inspires romance more than a spectacular sunset (except perhaps a sunrise, but who needs to get up early on a holiday!?). Ask any local and they’ll tell you unequivocally that the most beautiful place to take in one of Lanzarote’s sunsets is the small village of Femés, a short drive from the resort. The terrace known as the “Balcón de Femes” offers jaw-dropping views over the coast and back to Playa Blanca, and at sunset it’s nothing short of mesmerising. After you’ve had your fill of those famous painted skies you can dine at one of the charming local restaurants before heading back.
Another fabulous view can be gleaned from ascending the heights of Montãna Roja (an ancient volcano). It only takes around 30 minutes to hike to the top of the crater but you’ll need at least two hours to really soak up the experience. You can take your time to walk around the perimeter of the crater taking in magnificent views over Playa Blanca and all the way over to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. The site known as “Jameos del Agua” comprises a network of underground volcanic caves with a tunnel modified by the famous artist Cesar Manrique – making it completely unique. Wine is an embedded part of Lanzarote’s culture, so taking a day or half-day tour of a local winery is a very enjoyable way to create some memories together.
