Sensational Spanish Sights: Barcelona to Lloret de Mar

Opting for our airport transfer service from Barcelona to Lloret de Mar? Great choice. While zooming towards your sunny holiday destination, you’ll get a gorgeous glimpse of Catalonia’s most beautiful landscapes. What’s more, you’ll be able to learn more about them by chatting with our friendly guides, who know the area like the back of their hand. Here are a few stunning spots along your route that you’ll want to ask your driver about.

1. Premia de Mar

A mere 35 minutes into your journey, your Shuttle Direct transfer will take you past Premia de Mar, a sleepy town that is famous for its array of architectural styles. Make a note to return for a little stroll during your holiday.

Cultural Highlights:

Premia de Mar has a stunning town centre that attracts thousands of tourists every year. What’s particularly special about this bustling area is its noucentista, modernista, neoclassical, and downright quirky buildings, whose varying architectural styles coexist in a fascinatingly eclectic fashion.

During your visit, be sure to pop into the Church of Sant Cristòfol, whose nautical ornamentation and baroque entrance are a breathtaking sight to behold.

Recommended Visit Time: Half-Day Trip

 2. Mataro

About an hour into your journey from Barcelona to Lloret de Mar, you’ll pass Mataro, a charming city that you should visit during your holiday – especially if you’re in search of a perfect place for an afternoon stroll.

Cultural Highlights:

While exploring the dreamy streets of this beachside metropolis, be sure to visit its spectacular Roman ruins, along with the many architectural wonders of Josep Puig i Cadafalch, a famous Catalan pioneer.

Natural Highlights:

Not so keen on sightseeing? No problem. Why not soak up some sun by boating around the marina or taking a dip in the ocean. If you’re looking to let your adventurous spirit loose, you could also sign up for a rock climbing session in one of the city’s picture-perfect parks.

Recommended Visit Time: Full-Day Trip

3. Arenys de Mar

There’s more: on your ride from Barcelona to Lloret de Mar, you’ll also drive past Arenys de Mar, a coastal fishing town whose Calatan name translates to ‘sands by the sea.’

Cultural Highlights:

This historic spot is home to several hidden treasures, such as the Cementiri d’Arenys de Mar: an exquisitely decorated cemetery. For a valuable insight into Catalonia’s garment heritage, have a wander around the Museo Mares del Encaje (‘Museum of Lacemaking’), where you’re bound to find out something new about the country’s popular clothing materials and past fashion trends.

Natural Highlights:

Although Arenys de Mar is small, it has a lot in store. If you’re looking for beaches, Arenys de Mar has not one, but three marvellous beaches. Take your pick and go for a swim; start that book that you’ve been meaning to read for ages; or simply bask in the sun.

Recommended Visit time: Half-Day Trip for sightseeing or Full-Day Trip for beach lounging

4. Malgrat de Mar

The route from Barcelona to Lloret de Mar certainly isn’t short of stunning coastal towns. About an hour south of Lloret de Mar, you’ll find Malgrat de Mar, a Mediterranean town that is bustling with cultural and natural tourist attractions.

Natural Highlights:

Looking for a tranquil stroll? Then you won’t be disappointed by Malgrat de Mar’s scenic parks: Parc Francesc and Parc de Castell. If you’re travelling with children, both parks’ playgrounds are sure to keep them entertained while you’re taking in the area’s natural beauty. The latter even has a small tower atop a hill, from where you’ll get a fantastic, panoramic view of the surrounding area.

Recommended Visit Time: Half-Day Trip

 5. Blanes

If you’re looking for an excursion that strikes the perfect balance between cultural and natural sights, be sure to ask your driver about Blanes, a village situated just 20 minutes south of Lloret de Mar.

Cultural Highlights:

This quaint town has plenty of historic wonders for you to explore. You can take a tour of the nineteenth-century Cabrera’s Palace, a gorgeous gothic edifice overlooking the area. Afterwards, be sure to stop by Santa Maria’s Church, which dates back to the fifteenth century. This spectacular Gothic structure is famous for its two thrones, which were designed by Antoni Gaudí.

Situated near the town’s port, you’ll spot an eighteenth-century wonder: Sant Joan Castle. From this former fortress to protect the area from pirates, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of Blanes and its glistening coastline. It’s also worth discovering the castle. You’ll be able to tell that its protective structures were very necessary 300 years ago – there’s even a massive hole created by a cannonball in one of its shielding walls.

Natural Highlights:

Along with Blanes’ golden beaches and secluded coves, its botanical gardens are world-famous attractions that you simply cannot miss. The Marimutra stretches across 16 hectares, and is known as the most beautiful botanical garden in all of Europe. Furthermore, the 500-hectare Pinya de Rosa encloses the most outstanding assortment of agave, cactus, and aloe in Europe… and the whole world!
